Simi Scoop – Dec. 11th - 14th | Bright Lights, Little City

Your guide to live music, local events, and where to be this weekend in Simi.

Good morning, Simi Valley!

We have a TON of stuff happening in town these next few days. Be sure to make it all the way through the Extra Sprinkles section today, I don’t want any of you to miss out!

Let’s jump in:

Main Scoops

Where are the best lights in Simi? Lots of houses and neighborhoods have gone above and beyond, but in my opinion none hold a candle, or maybe a Christmas light to Auburn Lane. On Saturday, Auburn Lane takes it to another level: for one festive night, the whole loop lights up with music, cocoa, carolers, and visits from Santa and the Grinch.

The evening kicks off with the Polyphonix Choir, followed by roaming carolers, sweet treats from Bree’s Cakes, and a card-making station where kids can create holiday cards for local nursing homes. Families are invited to stroll, sip, sing, and soak up the lights — all while helping support James Storehouse Charities with a new, unwrapped toy.

Visiting Auburn Lane to see the lights is a tradition of ours, maybe you’ll want to make it one of yours too!

The Weekly Crave

If you’ve ever cruised down LA Ave between Sycamore and Sequoia with your windows down around lunchtime, then you’ve been entranced by the amazing BBQ smells of Green Acres getting their tri-tip sandwiches ready. Think it’s tough not pulling over every time you pass by? Try growing up down the street from Green Acres, getting the whiffs of tri-tip nearly every day!

Some places just scream Simi Valley and Green Acres is one of them. It’s part deli, part butcher shop, part produce stand, and part epic BBQ lunch spot.

I’d say the deli is the star of the show: oversized sandwiches stacked with Boar’s Head meats, fresh bread, and veggies that actually taste like something. The tri-tip is legendary…I’m sure many of you know. If you don’t know…this is your PSA.

Add in the produce market, the holiday décor, and the friendly staff who seem to remember everyone, and it’s no wonder Green Acres has become a pre-holiday tradition for so many Simi families.

The Local Topping

If your kids can’t resist sirens, shiny trucks, or waving at every police car in town, this one’s for you. The Simi Valley Police Foundation is rolling out some of the coolest vehicles in the city for a hands-on community day where kids (and let’s be honest, plenty of parents) can climb inside real police units, explore specialty equipment, and meet the officers who keep Simi safe. Expect patrol cars, motorcycles, SWAT gear, K-9 fun, and plenty of “Whoa, look at that!” moments.

Bring your cameras, bring your questions, bring your kids’ endless enthusiasm.

Simi Fun Fact: While the main town set for Little House on the Prairie was in Big Sky Ranch, outskirts, homestead, and nature shots were filmed throughout Simi Valley hills and surrounding ranchland.

Simi’s dry golden grass and rolling hills matched the look of the Midwest prairie better than anywhere else in California.
