Simi Scoop – July 3 – July 6 | Fourth of July Game Plan

Your guide to live music, local events, and where to be this weekend in Simi.

Good morning, Simi Valley!

The flags are flying. Grills are warming up. And somewhere by the “S” turn, someone’s setting up folding chairs for fireworks 36 hours early.

If you’re reading this, congrats — you’re officially in the know. Forward it to a friend who’s still asking, “What’s going on this weekend?” Because friends don’t let friends not read the Scoop.

In today’s Simi Scoop:

• History, games, and Mr. Lincoln at the Reagan Library
• Simi’s signature fireworks and country jam
• Four days of rides, fried food, and carnival lights
• A local chili dog legend serving up a Scoop-exclusive deal
• And the full lowdown on what’s happening in Simi this weekend

Let’s jump in.

Main Scoops:

📜 Celebrate the 4th Where History Lives

Friday, July 4 | 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM | Reagan Library

You’d be hard-pressed to find a place better to honor America’s birthday than one of its most iconic Presidential Libraries. The Reagan Library’s annual Independence Day Celebration is back — and this year, it kicks off the official countdown to America’s 250th birthday!

Expect a full day of red, white, and blue:
• Patriotic performances by the Los Robles Children’s Choir, LA Sheriff’s Department Band, and country singer Justin Honsinger
• Meet, greet, and selfie with historical reenactors
• Carnival games, face painting, crafts, and presidential bingo for the kids

The outdoor event is free to attend, but museum admission is available for purchase if you wanted to explore Air Force One and the rare Dead Sea Scrolls. Want a complete hourly breakdown of events? Click Here to see events and times! See you there, I’ll be the guy grabbin’ a selfie with Mr. Lincoln!

🎆 Live Country, Cold Beer & Fireworks to Light Up Simi

Friday, July 4 | 3:00 PM – 9:30 PM | Rancho Santa Susana Community Park

Simi Valley shows up BIG for the 4th and the Star‑Spangled Rock ’N Country Jam & Fireworks Celebration shows it. Just as things are cooling down at the Reagan Library celebration, things will be starting to heat up at the “S” turn park.

Hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Simi Valley, this all-American bash blends Simi Community and big time entertainment!
• Live music by Jimi Nelson Band, Ignition, and Justin Honsinger (apparently pulling double duty)
• A free Fun Zone for kids and vendors for all ages
• Cold drinks from Sassy’s Star-Spangled Saloon and a beer & wine garden
• A breathtaking fireworks finale at 9 PM

*And it’s not just about the party, bring a non-perishable food item to support the Great American Food Drive benefiting Simi families in need.

🌭 The Weekly Crave: Simi’s Most Iconic Dog

Sponsored: Check out below for an exclusive Simi Scoop Deal!

It’s the week for fireworks, flags, and maybe the most all-American bite of all: the chili dog. And when it comes to chili dogs in Simi, one spot has been doing it right since before many of us were born.

Cupid’s Hot Dogs (Instagram @cupids_hotdogs), a Valley staple since 1946, planted roots in Simi Valley back in 1988, and they’ve been winning hearts (and stomachs) ever since.

Started by Richard and Bernice Walsh (Cupid was Bernice’s nickname), this family-run icon kept the menu simple: dogs, chili, and a lot of pride. Today, the third generation, The Walsh Sisters (Kelly & Morgan) are still running the show!

What to order? Keep it classic with a couple Cupid Dogs (Pro tip: add some shredded cheese on top!) I grabbed some this week and they did not disappoint!

They will be closed on the 4th of July itself, but grab some today or this weekend!
Open from 11 AM – 8 PM Click Here to check out the menu!

💥 Simi Scoop Exclusive Deal 💥
Mention this article and if you buy 2 Hot Dogs, you’ll get a Free Drink & Chips — now through July 11. One per customer.

👉 If you know, you know. And if you don’t, this is your week.

Community Reminder: Fireworks in Simi What to know

If you’ve spent any time in Simi Facebook groups, you know fireworks are a hot-button issue. To clear things up: All personal fireworks are illegal in Simi Valley, even sparklers. Still, every year, they happen.

It’s easy to see both sides. Fireworks are nostalgic and exciting- but they can also be dangerous and disruptive.

Here are a few things to consider:

  • Veterans with PTSD can be deeply affected by loud explosions.

  • Simi’s fire danger is no joke — one spark can be costly.

  • Pets panic, many go missing each year from fear.

  • And of course — fireworks can cause serious injuries.

Let’s be safe, kind, and mindful of others this holiday.
