Simi Scoop – June 26 – June 29 | The 95-Year-Old You Should Know

Your guide to live music, local events, and where to be this weekend in Simi.

Where Simi Valley Locals stay in the know. No fluff.

Good morning, Simi Valley!

The popcorn’s hot. The tails are wagging. And if you haven’t watched Patricia’s Simi yet, this is your sign to grab a cold brew and hit play.

In today’s Simi Scoop:

  • Theresa’s throws a birthday bash for the books (and the pups)

  • A moving tribute to the woman who kept Simi’s story alive

  • Coffee that tastes good and does good at Lucky Dog Café

  • “You’re killing me, Smalls!” — poolside edition

What else does Simi have in store this weekend?

Let’s jump in.

Main Scoops:

🦴 Theresa’s Turns 41 — And Simi Pets Rejoice

Theresa’s Country Feed & Pet isn’t just the biggest family-owned pet store in Southern California — it’s a Simi Valley legend with maybe the best popcorn in town. Since 1983, they’ve been the go-to for everything from picky cats to anxious Labs (especially around the 4th of July), with a staff that’s friendly and knowledgeable.

This Saturday, they’re celebrating 41 years in the community with a full day of pet-friendly fun. Expect local vendors lining the storefront, surprise giveaways, and more wagging tails than a dog park on Sunday.

Whether you’re swinging by for supplies or just to soak up the good vibes, stop in and show some love to a business that’s been showing it to Simi families (and their four-legged friends) for over four decades.

📖 The Woman Who Saved Simi’s Story

A different kind of “Main Scoop” from what we usually do, but we promise this short film is worth it. Plus it’s going to be hot this weekend, spend sometime in A/C and check out this Simi Historian documentary.

It starts with a third-grade field trip. A curious boy. And a 95-year-old woman who spent her life making sure Simi Valley’s story was never forgotten.

“Patricia’s Simi” was just released on April 19, this 17-minute short film follows college student Alex Dean as he honors his lifelong hero — Patricia Havens, founder of Strathearn Park and keeper of Simi’s past.

Through Patricia’s voice and never-before-seen images, you’ll rediscover how this town grew — and why remembering our roots matters more than ever.

If you love Simi, this will hit home.

🍴 The Weekly Crave — 🍀🐶Lucky Dog Café

Skip the chains. Lucky Dog Café is where your morning coffee fuels something bigger.

Founded by local educators Michael and Shannon Hutchinson, this Simi gem trains and employs individuals with disabilities helping them with gaining workforce skills and confidence— where every pour serves a bigger purpose. It’s kid-friendly, pup-welcoming, and has been named “Best Coffee Shop” by KCAL 9.

I grabbed the protein açaí bowl topped with peanut butter, blueberries, granola, and banana. It hit the spot! Whether you’re working remotely, meeting a friend, or grabbing breakfast on the go, this is your sign to head to Lucky Dog this week. The family-friendly coffee (and more) spot Simi’s lucky to have.

Don’t take our word for it — swing by this week and see what the buzz is about. Why wait? Click here to check out the menu and place an order!
