Simi Scoop – June 5 – June 8 | Caps, Gowns, and Crafts
Your guide to live music, local events, and where to be this weekend in Simi.

Where Simi Valley Locals stay in the know. No fluff.
Good morning, Simi Valley!
First weekend of summer break and Simi Valley isn’t easing in.
We’ve got graduations lighting up the stadiums, a lobster truck rolling into town for one day only, and a weekend lineup packed with live music, crafts, gardening, dancing, and even a dunk tank (we’re looking at you, Library Carnival).
Let’s jump in.
Main Scoops

🎓 Graduation Day is here, Simi Valley!
Whether you’ve got a senior in the mix or just live near a high school, it’s hard to miss the celebration. Packed stadiums, car horns, and cheering families mean only one thing: the Class of 2025 is walking.
TODAY: Thursday, June 5th, Simi Valley High, Royal, and Santa Susana will all hold their graduation ceremonies. Expect traffic, limited parking, and lots of proud parents snapping photos.
So whether you’re tossing a cap, waving from the bleachers, or just a fellow resident — congrats, grads!

🦞 Rollin’ in for One Day Only: Cousins Maine Lobster Foodtruck
📍 49 Strathearn Pl (Near Target on Madera)
🕚 Thursday, June 5 | 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Simi, get ready to feast East Coast–style. Cousins Maine Lobster is pulling into Simi with buttery lobster rolls, lobster tots, tacos, and more seafood goodness. They're only in town for a few hours, so skip lunch plans and treat yourself to something crave-worthy. 🦞
💎 Heist in the Heart of Simi
In a crime that feels straight out of a movie, burglars broke into Dr. Conkey’s Candy & Coffee Co. just before midnight on May 25 — but they weren’t after sweets. After spray-painting security cameras, they tunneled through the wall into 5 Star Jewelry next door. Over 3–4 hours, they cut open the safe and stole nearly everything: gold, diamonds, watches, and precious customer items.
Owner Jonathan Youssef said over $2 million was lost — but the hardest part? Many pieces belonged to customers. “They weren’t just things. They were memories,” he told KTLA.
This isn’t an isolated case. Similar high-tech heists have hit Glendale and L.A. in recent weeks. The FBI is now involved.
A fundraiser has been started to help 5 Star Jewelry recover: GiveSendGo – 5 Star Jewelry

Civic News
🏙️ 🏗️ Could Big Changes Be Coming to the Simi Valley Town Center?
Simi Valley’s Town Center Mall may be in for a major transformation. The City Council recently voted 4–1 to let developer Steelwave LLC begin the process of proposing a mixed-use redevelopment — combining housing and updated retail.
No plans have been approved yet. This vote simply allows the developer to formally submit a proposal in the future. Early concepts could bring:
Up to 375 new homes — potentially more under state density laws
A reduction of the mall’s retail footprint by about 45%
New townhomes or duplexes alongside refreshed shopping and dining
The site has struggled for years, with many empty storefronts and the last anchor tenant closing in 2024. Supporters see mixed-use as a way to revive the area, while others are concerned about losing one of Simi’s last major commercial spaces.
Steelwave has one year to submit plans, which will include opportunities for public input and further City Council review.

Did You Know?
Simi Valley is home to one of the largest Native American cave painting sites in Southern California.
The Burro Flats Painted Cave, tucked in the hills near the Santa Susana Pass, features sacred Chumash pictographs estimated to be hundreds of years old. The exact location is kept secret to preserve the site, but it’s protected by NASA and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
