🎭 Shrek Takes the Stage in Simi

Get ready, Simi, your favorite ogre is moving from the swamp to Simi!

Starting Saturday, October 11th, the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center raises the curtain on Shrek The Musical, the hilarious Broadway adaptation of the beloved DreamWorks film. Packed with big laughs, catchy songs, and plenty of fairy-tale fun, this family-friendly show is sure to delight kids and adults alike.

Expect to see all your favorites, Shrek, Fiona, Donkey, Lord Farquaad (my favorite), and yes, even a fire-breathing dragon. The story that proves true love and friendship come in all shapes, sizes, and species. This is one that I don’t think we can miss out on Simi, let’s pack the SVCAC!

🍖 Red’s Barbecue

You can’t talk Simi’s BBQ elites without mentioning Red’s Barbecue (or just ‘Red’s’ to many locals), a Simi staple since 1992. Known for mesquite-grilled meats and “fall-off-the-bone” ribs, Red’s delivers classic BBQ comfort done right.

Their baby back ribs are a local legend, but don’t skip the tri-tip steak, barbecued chicken, or those loaded baked potatoes piled high with butter, sour cream, and bacon. Pair it all with Red’s homemade garlic rolls and a side of mac n’ cheese or coleslaw, and you’ve got a meal worth craving all week.

My go to order: Chopped BBQ Chicken Salad (well done chicken) and a combo of the Red’s BBQ Sauce and Ranch for my dressing. Not to mention the 3 or so rolls I finish off 😉 

Family-run and friendly, Red’s keeps Simi Valley fed, full, and smiling — one smoky plate at a time.

 🚦 Safer Streets Ahead in Simi

Good news for Simi drivers and pedestrians — the City Council has accepted a new grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety aimed at making our streets safer. The funds will support the Police Department’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program, which means more resources for DUI checkpoints, speed enforcement, and distracted driving patrols.

Why it matters: traffic collisions remain one of the leading causes of injury and death statewide. This grant gives Simi PD the tools to increase visibility, target high-risk behaviors, and remind everyone to keep safety first on the road.

Residents can expect to see stepped-up enforcement in coming months as the program rolls out. The goal is simple: reduce crashes, save lives, and keep our community moving safely.
